Layered Georgia Bulldogs wood sign with raised bulldog design and red outline.

Sign of the Week: Dawg Nation Pride

Some signs come together exactly how you picture them in your head, while others slowly evolve layer by layer during the build process. This Georgia Bulldogs sign ended up being one of those pieces where every added layer completely changed the look.

The foundation of the sign started with a honey stained back layer to give the piece some warmth and natural wood character. From there, each additional layer was designed to create contrast and depth without taking away from the overall shape of the design.

The white layer behind the bulldog and the “G” helped brighten the center of the sign, while the red accents added just enough bold color to make the details stand out. Once the darker top layer and outer frame were added, the entire piece started getting that dimensional look that makes layered signs so satisfying to build.

One of our favorite parts of this design is how the red subtly shows through around the edges and details without overpowering the rest of the sign. Depending on the lighting and viewing angle, the layers almost create a shadow effect around the bulldog artwork.

Projects like this are why we enjoy making layered wood signs so much. Even with a familiar team design, the combination of stain, paint, spacing, and depth can completely change the final look of the piece.

This build became the third feature in our Sign of the Week series, and it’s definitely one of the boldest ones we’ve made so far.
